Saturday full of activities...

I started the day with the Memorial Service of Jon Molstad; boss, colleague, friend to so many people that I know. I met Jon a couple times and I didn't even talk much with him in person but I've heard ton of many good things about him through one of my best friend who happens to work with him and admire him so dearly. I decided to go paying respect to him at the service, it organized at Thai Temple which gave me some surprise actually. I've known and heard that foreigners become Buddhist and monk but never seen or been to foreigner's funeral at the Thai temple. I received the message that they want it to be the celebration of life and something but sadness so any color cloth was allowed. I am Thai and we grew up to the culture of wearing black to the funeral so it's hard not to wear black due to my belief. But not wearing black wasn't an issue to be concerned here, the neglect of their own culture was. As we wait for the service to begin suddenly my friend and I spotted a Thai girl came with her farang boyfriend, what shocked us was she wore a spaghetti line creamy lace dress. While some foreigners care enough to cover their shoulder with shawl, she walked around confidently in her dress. As I remember, we've learn behavior, culture, manner, etc. in school and even when you go to The Grand Palace, they will also tell you not to wear sleeveless. I don't care if you have a farang boyfriend, that won't give you the right to ignore your culture. I am not old-fashioned but at least I respect the culture and know what to do or not to do. You just gave foreigners the confused idea of proper wear when they enter to the temple. You still consider youself as Thai? Shame on you...

"It is important to dress and behave correctly when visiting a Buddhist temple in Thailand. You should not wear beach clothes to a temple. Even though you might be baking from the heat, shorts and sleeveless tops should not be worn. Shoes should be removed before entering any building containing a Buddha image. Women should not touch monks or hand anything directly to a monk."

In the afternoon, I went to Racquet Club in soi49 to spend time with friends and my honey. We played badminton and then swimming, while a couple of them already start earlier with climbing. We end our quality activities day with a nice big meal at 'The Cedar' Lebanese food next from the swimming pool. I don't care how much I ate, that why I did exercise so that I can eat more LOL What a great day!!

Live & Love,
