the love of food
The love of food probably started when I was young, my mom always cooked something nice at home. I loved helping her preparing meals but she never let me cook. She said that I would just mess it up in the kitchen so I didn't mind as long as she cooked amazing meal then I let she did her work.
And also I was lucky that mom and dad were always adventurous when it came to food. I tried lots of cuisine when I was just a kid. I tried Japanese, Chinese, Indian, European, etc. Also I wasn't really a fussy eater. I love bitter gourd soup which mom cooked but I found out later that actually she didn't like bitter gourd at all but she cooked it so that I'd eat all kind of vegetables. Thanks my mom for that, yes I love all vegetables except carrot. I don't like carrot a bit but I still eat it because it supposes to be good for you, that's what mom said.
I also love trying local food when I travelled I miss Thai food from time to time but I don't have to eat everyday. The point when I started cooking would be when I lived abroad, when I found it difficult to eat local food for a few month. I cooked simple meal first like all kind of eggs, of course, then making more advanced by following cook books from famous chefs or from YouTube. I love cooking more and more afterwards. I've watched so many cooking shows. I had lots of cooking book. And I did few baking as well.
I don't cook only Thai food because it's more challenging finding Thai ingredients elsewhere outside Thailand. Funny thing is, you can find Thai restaurants but you will never find Thai grocery stores. That's why we have Chinese stores or Korean stores where they have almost everything.
Now I might not be an expert cooker but I know what I like. Actually that's the bad thing about knowing how to cook. I didn't understand it before when my mom complained about the food. I understand it now. When you know how to cook or you know what you like or what it supposes to taste like then you would criticize just about everything and that's such a bad habit. I'm not so fussy about Thai food here in Philippines any more as long as it tastes good and not so much different than the usual recipe or ingredients that supposes to be in that dish. Though I love cooking, I can't do it for a living, not just yet. Maybe someday I might have a chef table at home instead, it's quite a trend nowadays anyway. Instead of having a big restaurant, you just have a chef table only for a few guests per schedule and cook whatever you want to present.
A dream is still a dream for now but some day you might be a guest at my chef table :)
